Love is… (Part XII)

Love is…
what sustains us.

Romantic love. The love of a good friend. The kind of love only a mother can have for a child. Love is what sustains us. When that love goes away we are left feeling out of sorts, empty, broken. Love can go away for all kinds of reasons. A husband can decide he doesn’t love you anymore. A friend, can die, suddenly, unexpectedly. A mother, aged and worn, is no longer there for you. Without love, we are empty. There are cracks and holes left in our heart where love used to live. And then, after a time, new people come into our lives. We are loved, again. We love, again. We are made whole, again. We cannot exist without love. Love is… what sustains us.
